There are four interesting traditional Sports d in Turkey that reflects its distinguished culture, customs, and traditions from the other countries, in addition to the difference in the traditional sports held in it.

Bullfighting

Bullfighting is one of the unique traditional sports in Turkey, as it dates back thousands of years since the presence of Turkish tribes that used to play this sport in the city of Artwin in north-eastern Turkey, which is 8 kilometres from Artoyn province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. 

This type of wrestling is considered a distinctive feature in the entire region, as many people come from different cities to participate in this entertainment, as it is held there alongside bullfights, folk dances and poetry recitation.  This festival is held in the third week of June every year, where the huge bulls fight with each other and the winning bull works to chase the opponent out of the ring first.

Use of Spear on Horse

The use of Spear on Horse sport is unconventional in Turkey, it is a difficult sport as it requires riding on horseback and scoring points by throwing a sharp wooden spear at a certain point. 

Therefore it needs a lot of strength and focus, this sport was very popular all over Anatolia from 50 to 60 years ago and despite its popularity, it was banned in 1826 by Sultan Mahmud II, who saw it as a very dangerous sport. It played regularly even 50 years ago, but now it is little practiced at events and celebrations
in some cities such as Erzurum and Kars in eastern Turkey, Konya, in central Anatolia, and in Balıkesir on the Aegean Sea.

Oil Wrestling

Oil Wrestling sport is one of the most popular sports in Turkey and the oldest manifestation of sport in the world, where the age of this sport exceeds 650 years, it is a Turkish national competitive sport.

This sport is held annually and it is one of the most difficult sports where wrestlers wear tight shorts made of buffalo leather up to They weigh 13 kilograms, and they anoint their bodies with olive oil, which leads to difficulty catching the opponent and putting him on the ground. 

Competitors in this sport are struggling to obtain the golden belt, and this sport will be held on the 27th of June outside the Turkish city, northwest of Edirne. The sport of oil wrestling has been included in the UNESCO list as part of the cultural heritage. 

The oil wrestling festival is held for a week with the active participation of the media, artists and famous personalities in Turkey and from around the world In addition to the millions of spectators, the sport generates a great deal of enthusiasm.

Camel Wrestling Festival

Camel wrestling is an ancient tradition, with its history spanning hundreds of years in the Aegean region and the Mediterranean cities in Turkey, and this sport is one of the sports that have very popular popularity in Turkey. 

Camel wrestling is held by certain rules and is usually held during the winter season, from December to March, as a winter festival, and it is believed that this sport has its origin in the Bedouin tribes who depend on camels for their livelihood.  Male camels are specially bred for wrestling and are of a specific type known as the Abel tolu, this wrestling is also held in the states of Aydin, Izmir, Mugla, Denizli and Manisa in the Aegean region, Balikesir and Canakkale in the Marmara region, Antalya, Burdur and Sparta in the Mediterranean region.. Many thousands of spectators go to the Camel Wrestling Festival, where they enjoy spending a special time with family and friends.
