History of the Republic Day in Turkey
On this historic day; the Turkish people remember with pride the struggle and heroism of those who contributed to the victory of the War of Independence. A war that has a centuries-old past, which spanned for four years during which the Turks presented thousands of martyrs and wounded; between 1919 and 1923, as a result of the fall of the Great Ottoman Caliphate during the course of The First World War, and the capture of Turkish lands by the Western Allies.
The war led by the Turkish army, led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, ended with the independence of most of Anatolia, and the latter announced on October 29, 1923, the establishment of the modern Turkish republic, to establish this day as a national holiday and a paid holiday.
